Guest Bio

Dubbed “favorite breakout star of television, actor Robin Lord Taylor is television’s most talked about new actor. With his remarkable standout performance as “Oswald Cobblepot” AKA “The Penguin” in Fox’s primetime hit “Gotham,” Taylor ignites the screen, bringing a “desperate jittery energy to the role,” creating a version of the “umbrella-wielding madman” so unique, that although there have been many portrayals of “Oswald Cobblepot” before his, he owns every scene, giving a perfectly nuanced and multi-layered performance as the man who ultimately will become one of Bruce Wayne’s greatest foes. Playing opposite Jada Pinkett Smith, the legendary Carol Kane and Ben McKenzie, Taylor’s interpretation is both painfully calculated, wildly desperate and aptly cold and his performance never falls back on any of the comic book gimmicks previously associated with the character.

“Gotham” gives fans insight into a new chapter that has never been told and details the origins of the iconic characters of the DC Comics Batman Universe. “Cobblepot” who with “the brains of a chess grandmaster and the morals of a jackal,” steals the show with his intriguing dark and sinister character who hides his sadistic lust for power as the show centers around the rise as “The Penguin” and the epic battles that come between he and “Fish Mooney” (Jada Pinkett Smith), which are the highlights of the season.

Taylor — slight, his naturally blond hair dyed and sharing “Oswald’s” nervous laugh — came from nowhere to land the role. He and Northwestern University roommate comedian Billy Eichner, both moved to New York where Taylor manned the camera for Eichner’s early “Billy on the Street” interviews, ambushing unsuspecting bystanders and appeared in parody sketches on “Creation Nation,” the web series he co-created. With many past TV and film projects under his belt and prior to landing the coveted role of “Cobblepot,” Taylor is best known for one of two things: playing the ill-fated “Sam” on AMC’s critically acclaimed series “The Walking Dead” and playing the role of ‘Abernathy Darwin Dunlap’ in the comedy film ACCEPTED opposite Justin Long. While his past roles could be listed as notable break-ins for any young working actor, things have turned around even quicker for the blonde-haired Iowa native.

Taylor recently wrapped filming his next feature film role in James Franco’s new indie THE LONG WAY HOME directed by and starring James Franco along with an all-star cast including Ashton Kutcher and Josh Hartnett.
